JEANS DAY FOR LOUISA COUNTY RAISES $13,471.40

[ Back to Articles ]

February 9, 2012

The earthquake in August was barely felt by us in Hampton Roads, but it was devastating for Louisa County and their schools.  Two of the six schools in Louisa County, including their only high school, had so much structural damage that they couldn’t open this year and will probably have to be destroyed.  Even with help from insurance and the federal government, Louisa County is still short millions of dollars and has had to have a split schedule with the middle and high school dividing the week and having school on Saturday.

Working along with the Virginia Beach schools and Dr. Merrill, the VBEA held a series of Jeans Days throughout the school system in December and January to raise money to help Louisa County.  Sixty-one schools participated, raising $13,971.40!  That’s more than a dollar per school employee!  Here are the top 10 schools by amount raised:

Seatack ES - $362
Windsor Oaks ES - $400
Glenwood ES - $410
Princess Anne HS - $430
Kempsville Meadows ES - $450
Fairfield ES - $485
Larkspur MS - $500
Linkhorn Park ES - $600
Strawbridge ES - $642
Birdneck ES - $668
